Update February 12, 2010

Spanish River Church continues to work with long-time partners Dony and Louis St. Germain of El Shaddai Ministries, Inc. (ESMI), as well as other churches sending medical teams to Haiti.

Because of your generosity and care for the Haiti people, we have:

  • Sent $94,000 to ESMI to purchase food, water and supplies in the Dominican Republic for distribution in Haiti.
  • Provided $10,000 for purchase of medicines and supplies for our medical teams and mobile clinics.
  • To date, SRC has provided 4 of the 6 dump trucks needed to haul relief supplies.
  • Purchased 100 x 200 foot tent to be used by ESMI as a church for 2,000 people in Leogane (south of Port au Prince).
  • Sent 2 medical teams to Haiti and assisted sending 2 additional teams (from Stuart, FL and North Carolina).
  • Equipped clinics in Port au Prince, Gonaives and Les Cayes with medical supplies for additional/future medical teams to use.

Total funds you have generously provided to the SRC Haiti Relief Fund:

$208,000.

What we will be doing:

Ongoing

We continue to raise funds for Haiti relief. We are focusing on raising money for the last 2 of the 6 dump trucks needed (cost is approximately $25,000 each). These trucks will haul relief supplies and will serve as a micro business platform as construction begins.
     (a)   Pray.
     (b)   ESMI has need for medical teams every week until April. SRC will continue to work with our church family and partnering churches to organize and send medical teams to Haiti.

Long-term (3-6 months):

     (a)   ESMI has targeted three locations to launch churches in Port au Prince and surrounding area that will be centers of gospel-centered holistic ministry. These churches will be distribution points for care, education, and community. Most importantly, the churches will meet the spiritual needs for the gospel that most relief agencies will never target. We will provide updates on this aspect of the plan as details for land, building material, and church supplies are finalized.
    (b)   SRC wants to serve as the catalyst for a church planting movement at this strategic time by engaging other churches in this effort.

How you can continue to help:

1.  Pray for God's help and protection for those in Haiti and those seeking to serve them. Pray especially that the Lord would use SRC as a catalyst for church planting in Haiti. Both the Haitian and SRC leadership are convinced this is a strategic opportunity from the Lord to take the bad news and good news of the gospel of Jesus to this country.

2.  Give over and above your regular tithes to the Haiti Relief Offering. Any amount helps. If you would like to purchase or help purchase a dump truck, indicate this on the "memo" section of your check.

3.  Serve on a medical mission team. Call Fabiana at 561-994-5000 ext. 259 or email her.

4.  Consider being a foster parent to a Haiti child through 4Kids of South Florida.  Call 4Kids church liaison John Schechter at 954-401-0774 or  email him.

At this time our partners in Haiti have asked that we send cash and not canned goods or clothing. We anticipate filling a shipping container for Haiti relief in the future, but current distribution channels make it much easier to purchase supplies in the Dominican Republic and then transport them over land into Haiti.

May God bless you for your generosity and faithfulness in giving of your time, talents and treasures to the people of Haiti.
