Lead Pastor David Cassidy

“December is inevitably a time for anticipation and reflection. We can’t help but wonder at the pace of time flying past us at breakneck speed, bringing us to the cusp of Christmas and another new year. We also pause to recall what we’ve celebrated, endured, gained, lost, and embraced in the past year. As the Preacher in Ecclesiastes wrote, “There is a time to every purpose under heaven.”

Looking back, I’m deeply moved by each of you and how you’ve shown me Jesus this year. Your dedication to love, mercy, sacrifice, generosity, and the spread of the gospel here and around the world continues to inspire me. It’s a privilege to serve as your Pastor, and I'm truly grateful for your prayers and support.

As I note every year, fully 17% or more of our annual budgeted giving is received in December. We want to see that goal reached and go well beyond it. It’s vital that we continue to move forward with the kinds of ministry initiatives, staff additions, volunteer training, and missions that God has called us to embrace. It is no exaggeration to say that every member’s giving is crucial to this fruitful ministry.”

Worship that Forms Our Life in Christ

The heart of our ministry is the preaching of the Word and the worship of our Savior. This year, we have experienced significant growth in our Sunday worship services, with an average weekly attendance of 1,667 people—a 14% growth from last year. Each Sunday, lives are being touched through powerful sermons, passionate worship, and meaningful connections.

Our Easter Sunday service, attended by 4,250 people, was a powerful celebration of new life in Christ, marking a 10% increase from last year. We look forward to welcoming everyone to our Christmas Eve services as we celebrate the birth of our Savior and “Behold the Wonder” at 1:00, 3:00, 5:00, and 7:00 p.m. This year, we are excited to share that Translation Services at Christmas Eve will be offered in not just Spanish and Portuguese, but in over 60 languages such as French, Chinese, Greek, Hebrew, Hindu, Italian, Russian, German, Japanese, Swahili, Arabic, Spanish, Portuguese, and more!

Generosity That Changes the World

Generosity is a form of worship at Spanish River Church, and your faithful giving has enabled us to reach both our local community and the world. In the first ten months of 2024, we have given away $1,419,516 to impact lives locally and globally in the name of Jesus. Here's a breakdown of how your generosity is making an impact:

  • $152,958 for Benevolence, providing assistance to families in crisis and those in need.

  • $240,423 for the Local Mercy Fund, including efforts like Ride 4 Orphans, which has raised $110,174 to support orphan and foster care this year.

  • $170,150 for Disaster Relief, assisting victims of crises such as Hurricane Helene, Hurricane Milton, and the ongoing unrest in Haiti and Israel.

  • $855,985 for Church Planting, helping launch new churches worldwide in places like Brazil, Mexico, Ghana, and Ukraine.

In addition to our regular giving initiatives, the annual Ride 4 Orphans cycling event in April raised over $100,000 to support children in need—both locally and abroad. This event brought together over 500 riders and 110 volunteers, many of whom participated for the first time. These funds are helping support orphan care and other critical needs at church plant locations in Chad, Malawi, and Haiti.

Beyond the Ride, this summer, we sent a mission team of 22 to Ibague, Colombia, to support church planters Hernan and Olga Currea. The team—made up of 12 children and 17 first-time mission trippers—worked on various outreach projects, including a Vacation Bible School with crafts and games for local children and a Nurturing Your Newborn / Mommy and Me class for local mothers. As a result of this trip, the local church has seen growth in attendance and successfully launched its own children's ministry. This partnership is a beautiful example of how we are living out our mission to reach the world for Christ.

Your generosity is not just about meeting immediate needs; it is about advancing the Kingdom of God and bringing the transforming life and love of Jesus to our members, neighbors, and the nations. Our church's generosity continues to have a far-reaching impact, not just locally but globally.

Mission that Reaches the Nations

This summer, we sent a mission team of 22 to Ibague, Colombia to support partner church planters. The team—12 children and 17 first-time mission trippers—worked on various outreach projects, including a Vacation Bible School with crafts and games for local children and a Nurturing Your Newborn / Mommy and Me class for local mothers. As a result of this trip, the local church has seen growth in attendance and successfully launched its own children's ministry. This partnership is a beautiful example of how we are living out our mission to reach the world for Christ.

Spanish River Church Planting continues to thrive. In 2024, we supported 49 church plants worldwide, from Mexico City to Moscow, Accra to Rio de Janeiro, and many more locations in between, and 29 of those are brand-new church plants. Part of our support in 2024 for our Church Planters includes pouring into them at the 2024 Spanish River Church Planting Summit. These church planters, along with their spouses, are being further equipped to lead vibrant, gospel-centered churches that will continue to make an eternal impact in their communities. You provided $855,985 for those efforts this past year.

Counseling that Restores the Broken and Bruised

Spanish River Counseling Center continues to be a place of healing and restoration for many in our community. This year, our doctors and therapists welcomed over 386 new clients and provided over 9112 counseling sessions. In addition to individual therapy, we've seen God move in powerful ways:

  • 27 people recommitted their lives to Christ through counseling.

  • 146 marriages have been healed and restored.

  • 35 couples have received premarital counseling.

The healing and restoration at SRCC is just one example of how God is using our church to transform lives—restoring marriages, healing wounds, and bringing people to faith. The personal stories of Christ’s healing mercy are too numerous to recount.

Spanish River Christian School:
Shaping the Next Generation

At Spanish River Christian School, we see God work in powerful ways as He shapes the next generation. This year, we welcomed 117 new students to the school, and 42% of SRCS families are now actively attending Spanish River Church.

One of the most heartwarming stories comes from Shelley and Doug Geisler, whose daughters' experiences at SRCS led to their own spiritual transformation. Today, Shelley is a teacher at SRCS, and Doug serves as an Elder and Deacon at the church. Their story is just one example of how SRCS is not only providing a high-quality education but also fostering life-changing encounters with the Gospel.

Every Generation Discipleship that Reaches, Teaches, Unites, and Equips

Discipleship has flourished across every generation at Spanish River Church:

  • Nurturing Your Newborn: an average of 40 moms attended Nurturing Your Newborn weekly in 2024.

  • River Tots: This ministry continues to be a vital gateway into the life of the church, with 12 former River Tots children now enrolled in the SRCS 3-year-old program. 5 new moms have also started attending Bible studies, and 3 of our new deacons were introduced to the church through their wives' involvement in River Tots.

  • SRC Kids - Sundays: 190 kids (Infants through 5th Grade) are being cared for and discipled every Sunday.

  • Awana: 123 children are registered and attending with abundant joy.

  • Upward Basketball and Cheerleading: 385 students participated this year. With over 80 volunteers, the program provided opportunities to share the gospel with families each Saturday during halftime, inviting them to take the next step in their faith journey.

  • Middle School: Our Middle School ministry saw an average of 55-60 students attending each week, and 24 students made decisions for Christ at Southland Camp this summer.

  • High School: The High School ministry has also seen incredible growth this year, with over 40 students attending weekly Campus Nights. This year, 6 students made decisions for Christ, and we have witnessed many others growing in their faith through small groups and discipleship programs.

  • Young Adults: an average of 20-25 young adults are attending weekly in 2024, many of whom are deepening relationships, and 11 of whom are serving in this growing ministry every week.

  • Women's Ministry: Over 327 women are actively involved in LifeGroups, with 121 new women joining this year. Our Mom Talks and other women's events continue to provide a space for spiritual growth and community.

  • Men's Ministry: 250 men are involved in LifeGroups, with 50 new men joining this year. The Men's LifeGroups have been diving into deep studies that have spurred spiritual development in incredible ways. We also hosted our Men's Weekend this year, which saw 120 men attend, strengthening their bond in Christ and in community.

  • Senior Adults: 45 seniors regularly attend LifeGroups, growing in their faith and supporting one another.

Serving that Demonstrates the Heart of Christ

Our Serve the City initiative continues to be a powerful way for us to live out the love of Christ in our community. This year, 174 volunteers participated, helping meet practical needs and share the gospel in tangible ways. Additionally, our Care Teams—which consist of over 140 volunteers—have ministered to more than 650 individuals through ministry teams like Prayer, Visitation, Cards, HELPS, Marriage, and GriefShare.

Another exciting new initiative this year was the Production Team's summer apprenticeship program, where 6 student leaders designed and built the stunning light fixtures seen on our stage today. This hands-on experience not only gave our students valuable skills but also contributed to enhancing the worship experience for our entire church family.

As part of our ongoing commitment to care for and nurture the spiritual health of our congregation and community, we saw 15 baptisms in 2024 as individuals publicly declared their faith in Christ. Additionally, we welcomed 92 new members into the church family, strengthening our community and expanding our reach.

Another key component of our local outreach is the ESL (English as a Second Language) ministry. This year, we saw 114 students from diverse backgrounds, including those from Brazil, Venezuela, Peru, Russia, Poland, Puerto Rico, Haiti, and Colombia. With 84 new students joining the program in 2024, the ESL ministry has become an invaluable bridge for immigrants and non-English speakers in our community, offering them not only language skills but also the opportunity to connect with others and grow in their relationship with Christ.

The Stephen Ministry continues to thrive, with 18 new Stephen Ministers trained and commissioned this year. These dedicated volunteers provide one-on-one Christian care to individuals facing a variety of challenges, ensuring that no one in our church family faces hardship alone.

The Prayer Team has also grown, with 29 new Prayer Partners joining this vital ministry, helping to cover our congregation in prayer and support the work of God in our community.

All together, your dedication to seeing the love of Christ shared is remarkable. As we look throughout all of Spanish River Church’s ministries, the wonderful work that was able to be accomplished for the sake of the gospel would not have been possible without our 1,173 total active volunteers in 2024. This year, our total of new volunteers is 147.

Through all of these efforts, we are living out our mission to care for both the spiritual and physical needs of our neighbors, demonstrating the love of Christ in practical, life-changing ways.
